Where to Find the TV Model Number
The most reliable location is the manufacturer's label on the back of the television. Look for a field labeled Model, Model No., or similar wording. Photograph the entire label so you also retain the serial number, version, manufacture date, and other identifiers that may matter during parts research.
Use the On-Screen Menu When the Rear Label Is Hard to Reach
Many smart TVs display model information under Settings, Support, About, System Information, or Device Information. Menu wording varies by brand. This can be useful for a wall-mounted television, but the physical rear label is still valuable because it may include suffix or version information that is not shown in every menu.
Why the Suffix and Version Matter
Do not shorten the model number. Letters or numbers after the base model can identify a region, production revision, panel version, or other configuration. Two TVs with nearly identical model names can use different internal boards.
The Model Number Is Not the Same as the Part Number
The TV model identifies the television. The part number identifies the specific component inside it. A single model can use multiple main boards, power supplies, T-Con boards, Wi-Fi modules, and backlight versions during its production run. That is why the model number is an important research tool but should not automatically replace the part number from the original component.
What to Photograph Before Ordering
- The complete rear TV label.
- The entire original board.
- Every barcode or white identification sticker on the board.
- Any visible assembly/service part number.
- Connectors and board layout for a secondary visual comparison.
Brand-Specific Identification
Samsung main boards commonly use BN94 assembly numbers; LG boards often use EBT, EBR, or EAY assembly/service numbers alongside EAX PCB numbers; Vizio boards can use 756TX-style identifiers and may depend on serial range; Sony boards use their own service-label conventions. Always compare the complete identifier.
