Description

STS Collective OpenMANET Radio – Private, Off-Grid Communications

The STS Collective OpenMANET Radio is a long-range, infrastructure-free communications device designed for privacy, resilience, and off-grid operation. Built on Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) in the 915 MHz band and preloaded with OpenMANET firmware, this unit allows you to create your own independent mesh network without relying on cellular carriers, ISPs, or centralized systems.

Power it on, and it automatically joins or forms a self-healing mesh network, enabling devices to communicate directly across nodes, even over long distances and challenging terrain.

Why It Exists

Modern communications depend on centralized infrastructure that can be:

  • Monitored

  • Restricted

  • Degraded or unavailable

The OpenMANET Radio gives you an alternative: a locally controlled, peer-to-peer network that continues operating regardless of outside connectivity.

No accounts. No subscriptions. No dependency on external providers.

Core Capabilities

🔒 Private Mesh Networking

  • Devices communicate over a locally controlled network (10.41.0.0/16)

  • No reliance on external infrastructure

  • Supports local services, messaging, and IP-based tools

📡 Long-Range, Low-Frequency Operation

  • 915 MHz Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) for extended range

  • Better penetration through buildings, foliage, and terrain than traditional Wi-Fi

  • External antenna support for optimized deployment

🔗 Self-Healing, Multi-Hop Network

  • Powered by BATMAN-V mesh routing

  • Nodes automatically discover and route traffic through each other

  • Network expands simply by adding more units

🌐 Local Access for Your Devices

  • Built-in Wi-Fi access point (2.4 GHz)

  • Ethernet connectivity for wired devices

  • Automatic IP assignment via DHCP

🌍 Optional Internet Gateway (When You Want It)

  • Designate one node as a gateway to provide internet access

  • Keeps your mesh network logically separate from upstream networks

Hardware Overview

  • MediaTek MT7621 dual-core processor

  • Morse Micro MM8108 HaLow radio

  • 256MB RAM / 32MB flash

  • Gigabit WAN + LAN

  • USB-C powered (5V)

  • External SMA antenna (sub-GHz)

Use Cases

  • Off-grid communication networks

  • Privacy-focused local networking

  • Emergency and disaster scenarios

  • Remote property connectivity

  • Field teams and decentralized coordination

  • Airsoft, milsim, and training environments

DIY flashing option

Flashing your own compatible device is usually manageable when you follow the project guide. STS Collective provides a ready-to-use flashed device for customers who prefer convenience. You do not need to buy a flashed unit to use the project.

Use the guide for your exact board and selected firmware:

Confirm the board revision, firmware target, power requirements, and current release before flashing. Reflashing replaces the installed firmware and may erase settings.
