What the TV Power Supply Board Does
The power supply converts household AC power into the DC voltages used by the television's main board, audio circuits, backlight system, and other assemblies. Depending on the design, the LED backlight driver may also be built into the power board.
Common Symptoms of a Power Supply Problem
- No standby light and no response to the power button.
- Repeated clicking or repeated attempts to start.
- The TV turns on, flashes, then shuts down.
- Backlights flicker, pulse, or fail to remain on.
- The set works intermittently, especially after warming up.
These symptoms do not prove the power board is bad. A shorted LED strip, failing main board, panel fault, damaged connector, or another circuit can load the power supply and make it enter protection.
Start With the Simple Checks
Test the wall outlet with another device, bypass a surge protector temporarily, inspect the power cord, and make sure a detachable cord is seated firmly. Disconnect HDMI and USB devices and power-cycle the TV.
Pay Attention to Startup Behavior
Watch the standby light as you press power. Note whether it changes color, begins blinking, or goes out. Listen for relay clicks and watch for a brief backlight flash or logo.
Visual Inspection Is Only One Step
With the television unplugged, inspect the board for burned areas, cracked parts, damaged connectors, or visibly bulged capacitors. A board can still be electrically defective while looking perfect.
Power Supply vs. Backlights
On LED-backlit LCD TVs, failed LED strips can make the television appear to have a power-board problem. If the TV has sound but the screen is dark, perform the flashlight test before ordering a power board.

Safety Matters With Power Boards
The primary side of a power supply contains hazardous voltage and capacitors that can retain charge after the TV is unplugged. Live voltage testing should only be performed by someone trained and equipped to do it safely.
Choosing the Correct Replacement
Use the exact assembly or service number from the original board and compare the full TV model and version. Manufacturers often use multiple power boards in the same model family.
